Spider-Man: Brand New Day has demonstrated tremendous success and is now ranked second in terms of grossing at the U.S. Box Office. A cooperative venture between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has eclipsed the record set by Avengers: Endgame for the U.S. Box Office, indicating there is still great interest for large theatrical releases. As of October 10th, 2021, Tom Holland (who plays Peter Parker) has generated $858.4 million in the U.S., slightly exceeding Avengers: Endgame’s previous second place position ($858.3 million). The only other film to have generated more than $1 billion at the U.S. Box Office is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which holds the number one position with $936.6 million. Spider-Man: Brand New Day represents a remarkable theatrical venture for the Spider-Man franchise, having established new benchmarks at the U.S. Box Office since its opening.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Film Establishes New Box Office Benchmarks Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reached a U.S. Box Office benchmark of $800 million faster than any prior film in just 19 days. Prior to this benchmark, Spider-Man: Brand New Day had surpassed Spider-Man: No Way Home to become the third-highest grossing U.S. film of all time, and subsequently surpassed Avengers: Endgame to become the second-highest grossing U.S. film of all time.
Additionally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become Sony Pictures’ largest U.S. release ever, representing yet another historical benchmark for the studio. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has achieved substantial success at the Global Box Office, generating approximately $2.22 billion. At this level, it is currently listed as one of the six highest-grossing films globally. It has exceeded Star Wars: The Force Awakens and is nearing the Global Box Office total of Titanic ($2.26 billion). Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day features Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal. The film was released in theaters on July 31st and quickly emerged as one of the largest hits of 2021. The film also broke the U.S. opening weekend record with $360 million, surpassing Avengers: Endgame.
In addition, it set a new record for the highest-grossing first week in U.S. Box Office history and was the second-fastest film to achieve $1 billion globally (after Avengers: Endgame). This accomplishment occurs during a period when there is increasing discussion regarding “superhero fatigue” resulting from disappointing Box Office results of several recent comic book films.
Nonetheless, Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman believes that audiences will continue to be attracted to superhero stories if they present a compelling cinematic experience. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rothman stated that quality is ultimately what determines whether audiences choose to attend a film. “Audiences can see mediocrity at home every day. If we want them to go out and see our movie, it needs to be extraordinary.” The impressive Box Office performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has contributed to a strong start for the 2026 Box Office.
According to data provided by Rentrak and published by The Hollywood Reporter, domestic revenue at the U.S. Box Office exceeded $7 billion by mid-August. This represents a significant improvement over last year’s performance. With its impressive domestic and international Box Office success and its contributions to bolstering Marvel’s presence in theaters, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has established the Spider-Man franchise as a significant player in cinema.
