Netflix is developing a documentary called “Instadocs: The Decoy Plane,” about an extraordinary occurrence in regard to Presidential Travel in 2026. The documentary will focus on the fact that President Donald Trump secretly left an airplane he was supposed to take after attending a NATO Summit in Turkey.
As a result of the secret departure, the entire group of reporters who were accompanying him were completely oblivious to the change of planes. This non-fiction documentary will premiere on September 4, 2026. This is the third documentary in the Netflix Instadocs collection. The documentary will illustrate how Donald Trump made a secret exit from an airplane that he was assumed to be taking after a NATO meeting in Turkey.
The fact that the reporters were unaware of this maneuver was due to the fact that the reporters were still on the airplane that they thought Trump was going to be taking. On September 4, 2026, the documentary will premiere on Netflix. According to Netflix, the film is based on first hand accounts of the event given by reporters, former Secret Service agent Robert McDonald, and former Air Force One flight attendant Wanda Joell. Trump Exits Air Force One Using a Food Service Vehicle In July during Trump’s trip back home from the Turkish NATO summit, Trump exited Air Force One via a food service vehicle.
Although reporters saw Trump enter the aircraft that they thought he would be taking, he exited from the rear door of the aircraft and entered a catering van to get into a smaller C-32A military jet. The reporters accompanying him did not realize that Trump had switched aircraft and continued to wait on the original aircraft. The film illustrates the security requirements associated with such an unusual maneuver and the impact it had on the media pool.
Reporters were told by personnel to close their window shades and reported that this order came directly from the Secret Service. The Decoy Plane examines the experiences of reporters Gram Slattery (Reuters), Alex Brandon (AP Photographer), Dan Lamothe (Washington Post), Carol Leonnig (MS NOW) along with former Secret Service agent Robert McDonald and former Air Force One flight attendant Wanda Joell. Their experiences illustrate the logistics of the mission and why it was necessary to hide Trump’s travel. Produced by Words + Pictures and directed by Steve Yaccino, The Decoy Plane is another documentary in Netflix’s current events series. Along with Instadocs: Alex Murdaugh, Unconvicted and Instadocs: The Prediction Games, The Decoy Plane is the latest quick turn documentary in Netflix’s collection of fast-turnaround documentaries.
