The debut trailer for this project was released today and offers a first look at Simon West’s ambitious cinematic retelling of a very clever historical military ruse. The film will star Nicolas Cage as Dusko Popov, a real-life Serbian spy who is said to have inspired Ian Fleming’s James Bond character. Other members of the cast include

Fortitude Turns a Real Military Deception Into a Spy Adventure
on Fortitude. This was a deceptive strategy executed by the Allies during World War II. Its goal was to mislead Nazi Germany into believing that the primary Allied invasion of Western Europe would occur in Pas-de-Calais, rather than in Normandy. Operation Fortitude employed a vast array of fabricated evidence to achieve this objective. Allied planners used dummy tanks, aircraft and ships, along with fake radio transmissions, actors, and double-agents to craft a convincing illusory invasion force.
The Allies aimed to distract German troops from Normandy long enough to ensure the success of the real D-Day invasion.
The film follows British intelligence officers Dudley Clarke and Thomas Argyll “TAR” Robertson, played by Ed Skrein and Matthew Goode. Their mission evolves into a vast network involving prominent figures like Winston Churchill, Ian Fleming, and several double agents.

Fortitude marks another collaboration between director West and Cage after working together on Con Air and Stolen, both action-oriented films.
